How to Choose a Facial Mask?

Choosing the correct facial mask is very important for your skin. You cannot blindly apply any facial mask you like. You need to choose a facial mask that will suit your purpose and your skin type.

A facial mask is a skin care treatment, and is spread all over the face and left for some time before being washed off.

This facial treatment goes deeper into the skin, as compared to other treatments or skin care products, such as cleansers and toners.

You can use Facial masks 2-4 times weekly and it is also a great way to laze around. Also, you will find many brands of facial masks are available as well as facial masks made according to skin types. The two main types are clay and peel off. A famous skin care brand, Neutrogena, has also developed a new hybrid cleanser/mask.

Look for moisturizing and nourishing ingredients such as glycerin, honey, milk proteins, aloe vera, plant oils, and antioxidants in a non-irritating base. Moisturizing masks add a quick boost of hydration to dry and flaky skin.

When choosing a facial mask, consider the following:

Your Skin's Condition.

When choosing a facial mask, focus on skin care issue that need urgent attention.

It could be acne or even oiliness and so forth. Will the facial mask act against blemishes, exfoliate, act as anti-aging treatment, or moisturize dry skin?

It is important that you read the ingredients in the facial mask. When selecting a facial mask for acne-prone skin, look for ingredients like salicylic acid, glycolic acid, sulfur, & tea tree oil. Clay is good for clearing acne and shrinking pores, Aloe Vera is popular in moisturizing masks, among many others. Choose moisturizing and nourishing ingredients like glycerin, honey, milk proteins, Aloe Vera, plant oils and antioxidants. Moisturizing masks hydrate dry and flaky skin.

Choose a product that’s compatible with your lifestyle.

Some products need 20 minutes to dry up and may require usage of 2 to 3 times a week for maximum benefits. If you feel 40 minutes is too much and you are too busy, then find a product that will fit with your needs.

Affordability.

There are low-end and high-end facial masks. You can buy facial mask for $4 to $12 and even as costly as $60. There is no guarantee, however, that a high-end mask will be more effective then an inexpensive one. The bottom-line is, everyone has different skin, so choose what works for your skin. There is no need to spend $60 on clay unless you really want to and can afford to.

Do you want organics or cruelty free products?

There are many companies that offer you organics and cruelty-free facial masks. These are just as effective as any other brands. Some people prefer natural blends to chemical ones.

Types of Facial Masks.

Clay Masks. This facial mask will take 10 to 20 minutes to dry on your face. The clay will help absorb oils, reduce large pores and dry up acne.

Clay masks suit people with oily skin. It also suits people with normal and dry skin, especially from acne-fighting properties. Ensure that you use a moisturizer and exfoliant afterwards, if you have dry skin. Make sure you follow proper directions so that you don’t over-dry your skin. People with oily skin should also follow, because when their skin feels overly dry, skin will over-produce oil, which could result in breakouts.

Peel-Off Masks. Other types of facial masks are the peel off masks.

Peel-off Masks masks are tough to apply since they can be runny. Peel-off masks offer more moisture than a clay mask, and also has wrinkle-fighting oxidants and exfoliating alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA), like glycolic acid. A gel mask is good for normal, combo skin, sensitive and acne skin. People with oily skin should not try peel off masks.
