Hydrating Masks
Hydration, or keeping the stratum corneum, or the outermost layer of our skin’s epidermis, supplied with water and moisture, is essential to maintaining our skin’s proper functioning, structure, and immunity. That’s why, dehydrated facial skin turns tight and dry, forms flaky superficial cells, becomes less resilient, and prone to wrinkles, and when it is both dry (i.e., lacks oil) and dehydrated, additionally, it is often irritated, inflamed, and itchy.
Most of us have grown up with the fact that filling the body with water by drinking at least 8-10 glasses a day is the best, if not, the only way to hydrate our skin. But talking about skin aging and maintaining healthy skin, it's a more often neglected fact that our body only flushes the water that we drink, leaving our skin cells with just a little amount of it, even less than what they need; add to the fact that water supply in our skin tend to reduce as we age.
Hydrating Facial Masks are specially created to rehydrate the skin by infusing it with nutrients that will induce the production of moisture-enhancing substances in the skin cells, like collagen, help to heal skin dryness, revive the skin’s ability to retain and balance moisture, and boost our skin’s function and defense mechanism. Don’t let your skin beg for moisture again, especially now that you know how proper hydration keeps your skin and you healthy, and protects your skin from getting old and dry.

What Causes Dehydrated Skin?
Several factors contribute to dehydrated skin, and among the most common include:
Evaporation of Moisture through the Skin. We continuously lose water from the skin's surface by evaporation. Under normal conditions, the rate of loss is slow, and the water is adequately replaced. However, the dry and cold air of winter and air-conditioned rooms can promote the evaporation of moisture from our skin. On the other hand, during a hot weather, when our skin perspires to cool and regulate our body’s temperature from heated indoor air, without proper hydration, the water reserves in our skin may be used up without being replaced at the same rate as the water lost, causing our skin to dry.
Ultraviolet Sun Rays. UVA rays, the more damaging sun rays, shoots through the epidermis and disperses through the dermis, the ‘true skin’ layer. Prolonged exposure to UVA cracks and shrinks the collagen and elastin in the skin cells, reducing the size of this layer and the effectiveness of the water-binding substances in the skin cells, causing the skin to dry. 2
Bathing and cleansing practices. Frequent long, and hot showers and baths ca strip the protective natural oils from the skin. Soaps (especially harsh soaps, deodorant soaps, and antibacterial soaps), detergents, and cleansers also remove the skin's oil. Skin-drying ingredients can also lurk in a variety of other personal care products, including antiperspirants and perfumes.3
Low Humidity Environment. Skin starts to lose moisture when the relative humidity dips below 60 percent. To put this in perspective, the average office building has a relative humidity of 40 percent; an airplane 10 to 20 percent; a sauna 10 to 30 percent; New York City in February has a relative humidity of 60 percent; and the Sahara Desert is 25-percent humid.1
Stress and Aging. Stress has been shown to be a factor because it slows the production of barrier lipids in our skin. Likewise, aging often results in dry, dehydrated skin as our lipid levels and the skin’s natural complement of hydrators, known as glycosaminoglycans, decline with progressing years. And for women, the impact of declining estrogen levels that coincides with menopause may also be a contributing factor, as skin tends to appear dry and dehydrated during and after menopause.1
How Do Hydrating Masks Benefit the Skin?
Hydrating Facial Masks do a lot more than moistening dehydrated skin. Our hydrating masks are especially chosen among those that use natural extracts and sources as their key ingredients and works to address varying dehydrated skin conditions: 1
